MP’s Second Jobs

Christchurch Constituency Labour Party

As many of you will be aware, on Wednesday, members of the government voted down an attempt by Labour to pass legislation to ban MP’s from holding second jobs, in particular paid directorships and consultancies. It will be no surprise to the residents of Christchurch, that your local MP Christopher Chope was one of the Conservatives who voted against this fair and decent proposal. Mr Chope has a long and noteworthy history of voting against legislation which most of the voters in Christchurch would see as both sensible and desirable. This legislation was introduced to Parliament by Labour in response to the shocking revelation involving Malcolm Rifkind, and Jack Straw (now suspended by the Labour Party and forced to resign), he will not be allowed to stand again as a Labour candidate and has essentially been sacked.
